SALT LAKE CITY — A 26-year-old Mexican national was charged Thursday with rape of a child and sexual abuse of a child after police say he engaged in a game of "spin the bottle" with two 13-year-old girls.
Cecilio Avila faces one count each of rape of a child and sodomy upon a child, both first-degree felonies, as well as one count of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, in connection with a Feb. 1 incident at a West Valley City hotel.
According to charges filed in 3rd District Court, the underage girls went to a hotel with Avila and started to play "spin the bottle." During the game, Avila touched one of the girls "all over her body," the charges state.
At one point, Avila asked the girls to engage in sexual activity with each other, but they declined, the charges state. One of the girls ended up having sex with the man, according to the charges.
Cecilio Avila, who also goes by Julio Avila and Julia Avila, is being held in Salt Lake County Jail on $100,000 bail. Charges list Avila's residence in West Valley City, but jail information identifies him as a Mexican citizen.
