SALT LAKE CITY — The Senate unanimously passed a bill Tuesday that would prevent school districts from hiring lobbyists.

Under SB123, school districts would be banned from hiring an independent contractor for the sole purpose of lobbying. They would still be allowed, however, to employ government affairs specialists to represent their interests on Capitol Hill.

The bill is sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Scott Jenkins, R-Plain City. It now moves to the House for its consideration.
