SALT LAKE CITY — Fire burned a barn at This Is the Place Heritage Park in Salt Lake City early Tuesday morning. This isn't the first time fire has damaged the historic place.
Salt Lake City Fire Department crews responded at about 4 a.m., putting the fire out in fewer than 10 minutes. They contained the flames to the outside of the barn.
Crews also rescued a horse from the barn. The animal was not injured.
In June 2010, a barn at the park caught fire, killing nearly a dozen baby animals.
Heating lamps were the cause of that fire.
Fire investigators have not released the cause of Tuesday's fire, but damage is estimated at $10,000.
"We don't think it's suspicious, but these guys will give it a good investigation and give it a cause later on," Battalion Chief Tom Roberson said.
Officials say the firefighting effort worked well, even with extremely cold temperatures and fire hydrants that were not easy to find.
"It's a private area, so we're not quite as familiar with the hydrants on the streets, and they're not mapped out quite as well for us, but the crews are very familiar with the area because of inspections," Roberson said.
The barn involved in Tuesday's fire was a replacement for the structure that burned last summer.
The park opened for business as usual later Tuesday morning.
