LAYTON — An auto-pedestrian accident involving a police patrol car has resulted in one man being sent to the hospital.
A Roy police officer was on his way to start his shift for the evening and driving along Antelope Drive near Hill Field Road just before 8 p.m. Tuesday when a 50-year-old man darted across the road in front of him.
"He was seen by witnesses running across Antelope in front of several other vehicles prior to being struck," said Layton police spokesman Garret Atkin.
The man would have run across at least five lanes of traffic before being hit.
The collision cracked the police car's windshield and damaged the light bar.
The man was transported to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden in serious condition. Part of the investigation by Layton police will be to determine if the man was intoxicated, Atkin said.
The police officer was not injured.
