Thank you for your excellent coverage of David Culp's presentation dealing with nuclear testing (Jan. 25). Clearly, we are at a crossroads when it comes to nuclear proliferation. The world is waiting for the United States to assert its leadership by renewing the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with Russia and by ratifying the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. The citizens of Utah look to Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett to ensure these important treaties are ratified. Failing to do so not only moves us further away from fulfilling President Ronald Reagan's dream of a world free of nuclear weapons, but will most likely open the way to a renewed nuclear arms race.
