NEPHI, Juab County — One juvenile is in custody in connection with a bomb threat that led to nearly 1,000 students being evacuated from Juab High School and Juab Junior High Wednesday morning.
Police believe the threat, which was found written on a wall of the high school, was a hoax.
Students from both schools were sent home around 9:45 a.m. because they share a campus, said Juab School District business administrator Darin Clark. Juab High is located at 802 N. 650 East and the junior high is at 800 N. 555 East.
Clark said a "milder" threat was made late Tuesday, but it was not serious enough to warrant canceling school. When the second "more explicit, more powerful" threat was found, the decision was made to evacuate.
Law enforcement officials worked with additional deputies and a bomb-sniffing dog from the Utah County Sheriff's Office, Clark said. Two buildings and a vocational building that is shared by both schools were secured and Nephi City Police later announced they are convinced there was no device and that the public is safe to return to school.
Clark said there are approximately 660 students at Juab High and another 330 at Juab Junior High..
