Say what?

In the Really Bad Idea department comes this: A whites-only basketball league.

Don "Moose" Lewis, commissioner of the All-American Basketball Alliance, claimed last week it's not racism, but rather a love of "fundamental" basketball that drives his plan.

He went on to say that because they were generally less athletic, white players tend to rely on better fundamentals.

"If we can take that and have you come in and spend $10 — $30 a family — and enjoy some good, fundamental basketball, and go the nostalgic way, about how things used to be, and go home feeling good, is that a bad thing?" he said in an Associated Press video interview.

Good point.

It's not like Tim Duncan, Bill Russell or Magic Johnson would know anything about fundamentals.

Son of 'Tag

Don't look now, but the Big O is on the court.

And I don't mean Oscar Robertson.

Or even Greg Ostertag.

I mean his kid.

Cody Ostertag is a 6-foot-7, 188-pound sophomore for the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Christian Academy.

No, he doesn't have Fred Flintstone tattooed to his calf. But he does wear number 0 on his uniform (Dad wore 00 for the Jazz.)

The younger 'Tag averages 2.2 points and 1.8 rebounds. But he's apparently a better shooter than Big 'Tag, having made 15 of 28 field goals.

Great, but the larger question is this: Can he take out his front teeth?

On the map

ABC recently rolled out a new show called "Cougar Town."

It's about (surprise!) attractive middle-aged women ("cougars") dating hunky young guys.

A few years ago, Provo decided to change its name to Cougar Town on football game days. Maybe this would be a good time to change it to Bronco Town.

Better yet, how about just sticking with plain old Provo on Saturdays?

The good word

Former Heisman winner Tim Tebow is about to get controversial.

The wholesome Florida quarterback is reportedly set to appear in some Super Bowl ads on behalf of "Focus on Family."

The ad advocates scriptures and faith in problem solving.

Rock On secret sources say BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall is working on a commercial, too, advocating the same.

Plus, he offers free advice on how to win 10 games a year and still get your home teaching done by the third Sunday of the month.
