Utah will receive more than $2.1 million in contingency funding from the federal government to help eligible low-income homeowners and renters in Utah meet home heating and electricity costs.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced the funding Wednesday. The funds are part of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
The program helps eligible families pay for home heating, cooling and other energy costs. It also provides for weatherizing eligible families' homes. In recent years, more than 6 million low-income households across the country have received assistance under the program.
The contingency funds released Wednesday are in addition to basic LIHEAP funding that states receive automatically.
