NORTH SALT LAKE — Freezing water made a house fire difficult to control Sunday evening.
The South Davis Metro Fire Agency responded to a house fire at 130 S. David Way after a neighbor called about smoke and flames visible through the windows.
The incline of the hill by the house and freezing temperatures turned the ground into an "ice rink" and made the fire difficult to fight, said Fire Chief Jim Rampton. Firefighters went around to the backyard and protected other homes before managing to control the flames.
The fire caused approximately $150,000 in damages, including a ruined first floor and a roof that was two-thirds destroyed.
No one was in the home at the time of the 7:35 p.m. fire. Officials said one man showed up as firefighters were going inside and said no one was home.
