TRACK AND FIELD: Shaye Maurer and Sharla Manuele opened the indoor track and field with a bang on Friday night as the duo captured a pair of individual titles at the Bengal Shootout in Pocatello as the meet wrapped up in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday. The pair raced to individual victories in the women's60-meter dash and 3,000-meters, respectively, to highlight the T-Birds' success in the indoor track and field season opener..

Maurer raced in two heats of the women's 60-meterdash, finishing second to Weber State's Kristen Billings (7.73) with a time of 7.77, but was able to cross the line first in the women's scored heat, recording a time of 7.75. Shaka Richardson turned in the best time on the men's side with a third-place, 6.99 finish in the men's 60-meters.

Maurer later returned in the women's 60-meter hurdles to record a third-place finish with a time of 8.71 in the scored race and a second-place finish (8..76) in a second heat of the event. Kodai Kusano finished in the top four for the men with a third-place finish in the scored heat (8.25) and a fourth-place finish with a time of 8.33in the second heat.

Austin Hill captured the lone individual title on the men's side, racing to a first-place finish in the men's 400-meters with a time of 48.85 while Christina Day recorded the best finish on the women's side in the 400-meters with a fourth-place time of 58.50.

Manuele warmed up during the meet with a second-place finish in the women's 800-meters (2:14.19) before finishing first in the women's 3,000-meters with a time of 10:01.75 to best the competition by almost six seconds.

Southern Utah's relay teams also recorded strongperformances, crossing the finish line in the 4x400-meter relay with times of 3:23.61 (second place) and 3:56.16 (third place) for the me nand women, respectively.

In the jumping events, Daney Nelson recorded the bestfinish on the men's side with a third-place spot in the men's long jump, soaring to a mark of 21 feet four inches while Kyle Kopp matched the performance, finishing third in the men's triple jump by bounding42 feet 11 inches.

Carlos Valle's toss of 53 feet 6.25 inches in the men's shot put was less than two inches off the first-place mark set by Utah State's Joe Canavan, as the senior recorded the best finish for SUU in the throwing events. Forrest Ledbetter finished fourth in the men's weight throw (49-5.75) to lead the T-Birds in that event.
