NHL roundup: Islanders prevail in lengthy shootout with Sabres

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Trent Hunter's goal in the eighth round of a shootout made Rick DiPietro a winner in his first game on Long Island in over a year.

DiPietro made 31 saves through overtime, then turned aside five shooters in the tiebreaker in the New York Islanders' 3-2 victory over Buffalo on Saturday night.

BLACKHAWKS 6, BLUE JACKETS 5: At Columbus, Jonathan Toews scored twice in the third period and added an assist.

SHARKS 4, OILERS 2: At San Jose, Devin Setoguchi scored twice in a 1:38 span, and Patrick Marleau had his NHL-leading 32nd goal for San Jose.

AVALANCHE 3, DEVILS 1: At Denver, Craig Anderson made 37 saves, and Chris Stewart, T.J. Galiardi and Wojtek Wolski scored for Colorado.

SENATORS 4, CANADIENS 2: At Montreal, Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and two assists in his return to Ottawa's lineup.

BLUES 4, RANGERS 1: At St. Louis, Alex Steen and Roman Polak each had a goal and an assist, and Chris Mason made 21 saves for the Blues.

STARS 3, RED WINGS 2 (SO): At Dallas, Steve Ott scored a controversial goal in the sixth round of the shootout, and Dallas ended a three-game skid.

KINGS 4, BRUINS 3 (SO): At Los Angeles, Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar scored third-period goals and had both Los Angeles goals in the shootout.

PANTHERS 5, LIGHTNING 2: At Sunrise, Cory Stillman and Rostislav Olesz each scored two goals, and Tomas Vokoun made 47 saves for Florida.

COYOTES 6, WILD 4: At Glendale, Petr Prucha scored twice, and Ed Jovanovski had four assists in his return from a suspension.

THRASHERS 5, HURRICANES 3: At Raleigh, Ilya Kovalchuk scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period for Atlanta.

CANUCKS 6, PENGUINS 2: At Vancouver, Henrik Sedin scored the tying goal, then added two assists in Vancouver's four-goal burst in a five-minute stretch in a rout of visiting Pittsburgh.
