LOGAN — Utah State has never truly been a team about individual stars — even when they've had players like Jaycee Carroll filling up the bucket — but rather a roster full of players complementing each other and beating up opponents with a well-balanced efficiency.
Saturday night that was on display as well as ever when the Aggies overwhelmed a tired Boise State team for a resounding 81-59 win.
Five Aggies reached double figures in scoring and nobody played more than 28 minutes as USU closed out a three-games-in-six days stretch with its third consecutive victory.
"It was an awfully good week for us," USU coach Stew Morrill said. "Hopefully, it's something we can build off of."
The Aggies, 13-6 overall and 3-2 in Western Athletic Conference action, never trailed and after repelling an early second-half Boise State rally, Utah State blew the Broncos off the floor with an offensive explosion that turned an eight-point game into a 30-point advantage with a few minutes left in the game.
"Statistically it looks like we played better than it felt we played," said Morrill, who didn't exactly like the flow of the game with frequent whistles for fouls, turnovers and timeouts. "If you look at the stats, in just about every area, we did a pretty good job."
Junior reserve Brian Green led the Aggies with 14 points and Tai Wesley added 13, while three others had 10.
Point guard Jared Quayle played only 28 minutes, leaving the game for good with more than eight minutes to play and the Aggies up by more than 20, but still managed to score 10 points, grab seven rebounds and dish out seven assists.
"We played well as a team," Quayle said. "It was even all-around tonight and that makes us better."
Against Boise State, it also gave the Aggie starters a chance to rest a little bit after such a taxing week.
The Broncos hung tight for the first several minutes of the game and were down only 14-12 with 11:21 to play after Daequon Montreal scored on a layup.
But the Aggies responded with a 21-8 rally to put the game comfortably in their control.
Green, who had 12 points in the half and hit a trio of long 3-pointers, provided the spark Utah State needed.
"We didn't look like we had a lot of energy in the beginning," Green said. "I just felt like I needed to come out there and play as hard as I could."
