Lands a mercy, she's back!
If you didn't get your full dose of Sister Dottie S. Dixon last fall, she's ready to make it up to you.
Last October, actor Charles Lynn Frost, who plays Dixon, was admitted to the hospital after being infected by H1N1, forcing Pygmalion Theatre Company to reschedule the final week of performances.
Now Dottie is feeling much better and she's ready to finish what she started.
Sister Dixon is a middle-aged Mormon mom from Spanish Fork who finds out her son is gay. Based loosely on Frost's own mother, Sister Dixon sets out to bridge the gap between Mormons and the gays — one casserole at a time.
"The Passion of Sister Dottie S. Dixon: Second Helpings," Jan. 17-19, Rose Wagner, 138 W. 300 South, times vary. Tickets are $20 (804-355-2787 or www.arttix.org).
Another show returns to the stage this week, "Sleepy Hollow," Jan. 22 and 23, Val A. Browning Center, Weber State University, Ogden.
The original musical, by Jim Christian and Tom Edward Clark, returns as a fund-raiser to help send the school's production to the regional competition of the American College Theatre Festival in St. George.
Shows are nightly, 7:30 p.m., plus a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee. Tickets are $15 (800-978-8457).
Here are the rest of this week's openings:
"Tartuffe," Jan. 20-Feb. 6, Harris Fine Arts Center, BYU, Provo.
The classic comedy by Moliere centers around Orgon, in the twilight of his life, who has decided to give all his possessions to Tartuffe, a holy man who may not be all that he seems.
The production stars Dallin Allred, Andrew Veenstra, Anne Fleming and Alexis Wardle.
Shows are nightly, except Sunday and Monday, times vary. Tickets are $8-$15 (801-422-4322 or www.byuarts.com).
"A Night of Broadway," Jan. 18, SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 S. State, Orem.
The evening is a tribute to some of Broadway's most popular musicals. Local favorites will sing songs from shows such as "CATS," "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Wizard of Oz."
Shows are at 7 and 9 p.m., $8-$10 (801-225-2787 or www.scera.org).
