WEST VALLEY CITY — A man who fought with three police officers and briefly got his hand on one of their guns was arrested, police said.
West Valley police were called to an apartment complex near 2400 West and 3800 South just after 2 a.m. Tuesday on a call of a man with a gun, said West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan.
As officers arrived, they stopped a suspicious vehicle and ordered the driver to get out of the car, but he refused.
"He was verbally and physically noncompliant," he said.
Officers attempted to use a Taser on the man, but it had no effect. Officers then fought to put handcuffs on the man, McLachlan said.
The 5-foot-10, 270-pound man resisted arrest and put up a "fairly significant struggle" with all three officers. At one point, he grabbed one of the officer's guns and attempted to pull it out of its holster, McLachlan said. The officers were able to prevent the man from gaining control of the weapon and finally got him under control, he said.
Steve Godoy, 35, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempting to disarm a police officer, disorderly conduct and failure to comply, among other charges.
