I've been waiting to hear the outrage, but the public is pretty silent. This new "fee" to be charged to many of us living in the Salt Lake Valley for police protection is outrageous. The public needs to hear how many households will be covered by these fees and how many officers it will require to do so. Then we can do the math on whether the fee is in line with the service given.
Also, all of us are tightening our belts due to the recession. Could we please see how much each of these officers will be earning on average and what their benefits are? I have a feeling that their union is involved in all of this and that these men are being paid top wages with full benefits while the rest of us are having to cut back.
Please give us more information! The idea that some businesses, churches and neighborhoods are being taxed — but not everyone — seems wrong.
