CLEARFIELD — Police have arrested a Clearfield man suspected of sexually abusing several girls under the age of 10.

Eldon Lee Seagrist, 40, was found hiding at his mother's home Wednesday and was taken into custody, said Clearfield police detective Kyle Jeffries.

Authorities went to Sandra Lee Solaas' home, 150 S. Lakeview Drive, after receiving a tip and found him hiding in a basement closet.

"We had the Taser (pointed at) him, and as soon as he saw that, he gave up," Jeffries said.

In November, authorities began investigating allegations that Seagrist had molested several girls.

Officers had spoken with Seagrist by phone in early December to arrange an interview after they had finished talking with witnesses and the alleged victims. He denied the accusations during the phone call, the detective said, and then told friends that police planned to arrest him, so he was going into hiding.

Police believe Seagrist had been staying in Solaas' home for at least a week. The woman, however, maintained that she didn't know where her son was, Jeffries said.

Seagrist was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of four counts of sodomy on a child and three counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child. Solaas, 57, was also booked for investigation of obstruction of justice.
