SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's fledgling roller derby league will skate for charity at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Salt Palace Convention Center, 90 S. West Temple.

Funds raised from the bout will be donated to the Utah Parent Center, according to a news release from Wasatch Roller Derby.

Fans are encouraged to bring blankets so they can sit rink-side. But because skaters often leave the bounds of the rink, only those 18 and older are allowed the prized seats.

Roller derby is a racing game punctuated by over-the-top nicknames and costumes and the occasional fight. The women's sport is experiencing a renaissance nationwide.

The local hip-hop band Rotten Musicians will play during halftime. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, or free for those 5 years old and younger.

Wasatch Roller Derby, which recently split from the Salt City Derby Girls, also is looking for volunteer referees, statisticians and production helpers. For more information, visit wasatchrollerderby.com.
