GYMNASTICS: SUU hosted its annual Red White Preview on Friday night as the Red team came away with the victory, hitting 14 of 16 routines to the White team's 13 of 16. Both teams fielded abbreviated lineups, as a total of four gymnasts competed on each event instead of six, as will be the case during the regular season.

The Red team was composed of seniors Bailey Baker, Lindsey Schultz, Elise Wheeler, junior Ari Lamb and freshman Alyssa Click. Baker led the team with a 9.850 on vault while Click, performing in her first collegiate atmosphere, recorded individual victories on bars (9.850) and beam (9.750). Schultz captured an individual title on floor, scoring a 9.850. Wheeler completed the individual titles for Red by tying Click on the bars with a 9.850.

The White team, made up of senior Melissa Johnson, juniors Jenna Vogt and Shannon Coughlin, sophomores Brooke Cersosimo and Lauren Jeffrey and freshman Caitlin Kennedy, were led on vault by Johnson with a 9.85. Cersosimo tied for a title on the balance beam with a 9.75, while Coughlin, performing to a mix of Michael Jackson tunes on floor, led White with a 9.800. White was held without an individual title on bars.

During the night, Baker and Lamb competed in the all-around for the first time in their careers. Cersosimo also broadened her repertoire, competing on vault and floor for the first time in her career.

"This was a great crowd for what was ultimately a practice for us," head coach Scott Bauman said of the 2,000-plus fans in attendance. "I was impressed with where we are at as a team right now and was very impressed with our freshmen. They came out and did a great job of hitting their routines."

Southern Utah will officially kick off the season when the Thunderbirds travel to Provo for a meet with the BYU Cougars on Thursday.
