Utah lost 17 percent of its construction jobs and 15 percent of its jobs in construction, mining and logging between November 2008 and a year later.
U.S. Census figures released this week indicate that Utah went from 88,500 to 73,500 construction jobs and from 102,100 to 86,800 jobs in construction, mining and logging during that period.
All five metro areas listed in the report sustained losses of at least 20 percent in the combined industries. St. George lost at the largest rate, 27 percent. Salt Lake City lost the largest total, from 43,200 to 34,600, or 20 percent.
Logan's loss rate was 23 percent. Clearfield lost 21 percent. Provo/Orem lost 20 percent.
Construction employment fell in 324 of the 337 metro areas in the report.
