COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — This east-side bedroom community will celebrate its fifth birthday with a cake-cutting ceremony, ice show and free swimming or skating for locals.
The party will kick off Friday, Jan. 15, at Butler Middle School where children's artwork will be on display from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Saturday, the free skating or swimming will last from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center. The birthday cake will be cut, and the show will begin thereafter.
The rec center and school are located near 7500 South and 2700 East.
In the five years since incorporation, Cottonwood Heights has started its own police department and helped to kick off the Canyons School District. The city has also been involved in the creation of new trails and is currently considering whether to allow condominiums in the foothills near Big Cottonwood Canyon.
