It has happened once again. An "undocumented" person taking the ultimate right from one of our citizens — the right to life. Because we have been so lax in enforcing immigration law, another of our citizens has lost her life, this time a deputy sheriff.
While hundreds of legal immigrants are being naturalized as American citizens each year by complying with the rigorous requirements, many in Washington are considering awarding amnesty and easy citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants.
It is foolish to say that all of the illegals in this country are criminals, but allowing our immigration laws to go unenforced multiplies our chances for more violent criminals and more crimes being committed against citizens. Government's number one responsibility to its citizens is protection of their rights. Immigration laws and their enforcement go a long way toward that protection.
