John Taylor, third president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was born to James and Agnes Taylor on Nov. 1, 1808. A number of sources list Milnthorpe, Cumbria, in the United Kingdom as the place where President Taylor was born. However, at the time, the Taylor family may have been living on a farm in Stainton, several miles from Milnthorpe. Consequently, the exact site of President Taylor's birth is not known with certainty. It is believed that when he was a boy, he lived in the village of Milnthorpe. In any event, John Taylor was the only man to have served as president of the church who was not born in the United States.
