MAPLETON, Utah County — The city is paving its portion of Dogwood Drive to comply with a court order that partially settled a lawsuit between Mapleton and developer Wendell Gibby.
Dogwood Drive leads to Gibby's development on the east side of Eagle Rock subdivision at the base of Maple Mountain.
The City Council on Tuesday awarded the contract to the low bidder, Sunroc Corp., to put in a sliver of pavement about 400 yards long, widen existing pavement to 32 feet and put curb and gutter on one side up to Gibby's gate, city administrator Rob Bradshaw said.
Sunroc submitted a bid of $44,000, slightly below the engineer's estimate. The high bid came in at $85,000.
Gibby has been fighting the city for at least seven years to put in a 47-lot mountain subdivision. The council recently approved his plat map with conditions. However, a Utah Supreme Court decision is still pending that could force a resident referendum on the council's decision to zone for that many homes.
