SALT LAKE CITY — Deron Williams participated in pregame drills shooting with his left hand, but he will not attempt to play as a southpaw against Memphis tonight.

The Utah Jazz point guard will be inactive for tonight's game because of continued soreness in his right wrist, which he sprained and bruised during the loss to New Orleans on Monday night.

Ronnie Price will start the game for the Jazz. This will be the veteran's first start of the 2009-10 season.

Knowing that Williams might not play tonight, Jazz coach Jerry Sloan earlier in the day said that he might use a combination of Ronnie Brewer, C.J. Miles or Andrei Kirilenko to get the team into its offense rather than rely on newcomer Sundiata Gaines.

Gaines, a 23-year-old rookie point guard from the University of Georgia, just signed a 10-day contract with the Jazz this morning after passing a physical after being called up from the D-League's Idaho Stampede.
