SALT LAKE CITY — A father and son charged in federal court with robbing a pair of Rite Aid pharmacies were sentenced Tuesday to nine years and 15 years, respectively, for their crimes.

Mark Dubarry, 42, and his son Shawn Spence Dubarry, 19, were both indicted, along with three others, in September on two counts of robbery for a July 13 robbery and another on Aug. 23 at the same Rite Aid pharmacy, 635 E. 3300 South. They were also charged with possessing a firearm at the time of the robbery. Both men pleaded guilty to one count of each crime.

U.S. District Judge Dale Kimball sentenced Mark Dubarry to 15 years for the July 13 robbery, giving him eight years for the robbery itself and another seven years for brandishing a gun during the robbery. The seven-year term is the mandatory minimum for that crime.

Shawn Spence Dubarry was sentenced to nine years in prison, the mandatory seven years for using a weapon in the robbery, coupled with two years for the robbery.

Both of the robberies the men were involved in targeted the drug OxyContin, and investigators believe more than $3,000 worth of the drug was taken in the Aug. 23 robbery.

The father and son duo were two of six people named in the initial August complaint, which also included Nicole Dubarry, wife to Mark and mother to Shawn. Nicole Dubarry committed suicide while being held in the Salt Lake County Jail, seven days before the official indictment was filed.

Brittney Jerome Houston, 28, was also indicted in both robberies while Jesse Spence Kirby, 25, and Justin Richard Hawkins, 19, were indicted in the Aug. 23 robbery.
