Some good flicks being released on DVD

The following DVDs will be released Tuesday, unless otherwise specified:

"Below the Earth's Surface" (Maverick, $24.98) — Science-fiction thriller about scientists trying to prevent a natural disaster.

R (violence, brief nudity)

"The Circuit" (Rhi, $14.93) — Television drama focusing on the auto racing rivalry between a father and daughter. Michelle Trachtenberg stars.

Not rated, probable PG (violence)

"Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" (Sony, $28.96) — ★★★½ — A delicious farce that may be the funniest animated film of the year.

Special features: Two-disc "Super-Sized" edition ($34.95) includes behind-the-scenes minidocumentary, extended scenes, music video; two-disc DVD/Blu-ray combo ($39.95) features both standard DVD and Blu-ray versions of film, digital copy for home-electronics devices.

PG (mild profanity)

"Fifty Dead Men Walking" (Phase 4, $29.99) — Thriller based on the real-life experiences of members of the Irish Republican Army. Jim Sturgess stars.

"The Final Destination" (Warner, $28.98) — ★★½ — Standard fare for these violent but goofily inventive horror movies.

Special features: Includes both 2-D and 3-D versions of the movies, special glasses for 3-D viewing.

R (violence, gore, profanity, sex, vulgarity, brief nudity, slurs, brief drugs)

"Happily N'Ever After 2: Snow White" (Lionsgate, $14.98) — Direct-to-DVD sequel to the 2006 animated hit, featuring fairy tale characters.

Not rated, probable PG (vulgarity, violence)

"The Hip Hop Project" (Image, $14.99) — Documentary feature from 2006, focusing on rapper/social worker Chris "Kazi" Rolle.

PG-13 (profanity)

"Lorna's Silence" (Sony, $28.96) — ★★★The lead character is unlikable, but this dramatic thriller has some effective moments. French with subtitles.

R (drugs, profanity, sex, brief nudity, violence, vulgarity, slurs, brief gore)
