LAYTON — Layton police are asking for the public's help to locate a would-be robber.

The man entered America First Credit Union, 425 W. Heritage Blvd., just before the business closed at 6 p.m. Wednesday, said Layton Police Lt. Quinn Moyes. The man, who is white and between the ages of 30 and 35, made contact with the teller and demanded money, but didn't display a gun or indicate that he had one. Moyes noted that he did keep his hands in his pockets, suggesting that he may have had a weapon. He told employees that he "didn't want to hurt anyone."

The teller refused to give the man money and he proceeded to go behind the counter before he became aware that police were most likely on the way, Moyes said. Once the man became suspicious, he fled on foot.

The man was described as wearing "an outdated, cream-colored suit" with a dark-colored fedora hat and black, thick-rimmed glasses, "not the type you normally see people wearing." He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 160-170 pounds and had a tightly groomed beard.

"It certainly caused alarm and attention for people," Moyes said. "They knew something was not right with this."

Moyes said American First Credit Union is offering a reward for the arrest and conviction of the man. Anyone with information is asked to call Layton police at 801-497-8300.
