BOUNTIFUL — A Bountiful town home is a total loss following one of two house fires Saturday in Davis County.
No one was injured in the fire, which started around 3:30 p.m. at 451 N. 400 East.
Fire damage was contained to one of four connected units, said South Davis Metro Fire Agency Deputy Chief Jeff Bassett.
When firefighters arrived, flames were erupting from the back of the unit in the kitchen area and had also burned the basement. By Saturday evening, the fire marshal was still investigating the cause of the fire.
Other units sustained smoke damage, but those residents were able to return home for the night.
The burned unit, however, suffered an estimated $200,000 damage, and the owner will not be returning.
"She lost everything," Bassett said.
Fortunately, the woman has family in town and can stay with them, he said.
In Layton, four people were displaced by a fire early Saturday.
The fire began shortly before 2 a.m. in an upstairs bedroom of a home at 913 N. 3200 West, Battalion Chief Lonnie Adams said.
Firefighters arriving found fire and smoke pouring from the roof and had to knock down the blaze from the outside, Adams said.
It caused $200,000 in damages. The cause is still under investigation.
