SANDY — A Sandy bakery, visible from the freeway, caught fire Saturday evening, but firefighters were able to save the building.
The fire was located mostly in an office area of the bakery, at 224 W. 9210 South, officials said.
The building sustained about $250,000 in damage.
Motorists on I-15 spotted the fire around 7:15 p.m., Sandy Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Cline said, and called for help, as did patrons at a nearby skating rink.
When crews responded to the building, "a lot of fire was coming out of the back door," Cline said.
South Jordan, West Jordan, Midvale and Sandy firefighters pitched in to fight the fire, he said.
No one was injured, and fire crews worked to keep the fire from spreading.
The cause was still under investigation Sunday morning.
