SANDY — A Mount Jordan Middle school student was injured by a school bus before class on Thursday.

The 12-year-old girl was crossing the back of the school's parking lot on the corner of 9400 South and 300 East just before 7 a.m. when the front right tire of the bus ran over the girl's foot, Sandy Police said.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Primary Children's Medical Center with minor foot and leg injuries but nothing serious, said Sandy Police Sgt. Troy Arnold.

Police haven't cited the bus driver, saying they believe the accident was due to a lack of visibility at the early hour of the morning. The Utah Highway Patrol will inspect the bus for possible defects and the school may initiate its own investigation, Arnold said.
