OGDEN — A North Ogden man who injected heroin into a friend's IV in the hospital has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge and will spend a month in jail.
Ryan Knighton, 23, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, which was amended from a second-degree felony to a third-degree felony. As part of a plea bargain, a charge of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, was dismissed.
Second District Judge Mark DeCaria suspended a prison term of zero to five years and instead ordered Knighton to serve 30 days in jail. The judge also ordered Knighton to successfully complete drug court.
Knighton got into trouble on Aug. 4 after he injected heroin into a female friend's IV while she was at Ogden Regional Medical Center, according to Ogden police.
