PROVO — It's official — Jake Heaps is a BYU Cougar.

The star quarterback out of Skyline High in Sammamish, Wash., signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to attend BYU. Heaps, regarded as one of the top prep QBs in the country, led Skyline to three straight state championships.

Heaps signed on the first day of the early signing period for mid-year transfers and early enrollees from high school, which will allow him to enroll at BYU in January and participate in spring drills. He'll be one of the candidates vying to replace senior Max Hall.

Last June, Heaps, wide receiver Ross Apo and linebacker Zac Stout held a press conference in Salt Lake City to announce they were verbally committing to BYU.

Coach Bronco Mendenhall is expected to comment on Heaps, as well as others who have signed letters of intent, today.
