SALT LAKE CITY — The city's first car-share program is up and running.
U Car Share, a program that allows members to rent cars by the hour, officially launched Wednesday.
"Car sharing supports the city's long-term economic, environmental and social sustainability goals through increasing balanced transportation options and green alternatives for residents and visitors," Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker said in a statement this week. "I encourage participation as we focus on solutions to create a more sustainable city."
U Car Share offers pickup trucks and a collection of hybrid vehicles at its 18 locations around the city.
Renters must sign up for a membership and then pay $4.95 an hour, plus 49 cents per mile to rent a vehicle.
