"Tonight Show" host Conan O'Brien and his minions took aim at Sen. Orrin Hatch earlier this week — and their shotgun blast hit members of the LDS Church in general.

But it was a Nerf shotgun. Nobody got hurt, and it was pretty darn funny.

Oh, there are doubtless some out there who have or will take great offense to "A Song for the Mormons." Because, well, there are people out there who take great offense to everything. People who lack any kind of sense of humor. People who take themselves far too seriously

And, no doubt, those same people who are going to take great offense to my offering up an opinion that the bit was funny.

But it was.

"A Song for the Mormons"

was inspired by Utah's own GOP senior U.S. senator who found time to write and help perform a Hanukkah song. If you've seen the video that's making the rounds on the Internet, it's sort of unintentionally hilarious because Hatch is so incredibly stiff.

"Wow. He's really giving it his all there," O'Brien joked after showing a clip from the video.

"Sen. Hatch is a devout Mormon. We thought it was so nice of him to write a Hanukkah song that our own Max Weinberg wanted to return the favor."

Weinberg, of course, is the musical director on "The Tonight Show."

"Sen. Hatch, I loved that even though you're a Mormon, you wrote a Hanukkah song," Weinberg said. "And, as a member of the Jewish community, I wanted to show my thanks by writing you a special holiday song just for Mormons. I hope you like it."

If you want to sing along, it's set to the tune of the Dreidel Song:

"Now this is a song for Mormons to sing at Christmastime. I only know about Mormons from the stuff that I read online.

"You mostly live in Utah, but come from New York State. Your religion was delivered on a set of golden plates.

"Oh, Mormons, Mormons, Mormons, your faith we can ignore. Except on Sunday mornings when you're knocking at our door."

O'Brien sang the next verse:

"There are lots of famous Mormons, like Donny and Marie. Mitt Romney, Katherine Heigl, Ms. Pacman and Ziggy."

And then Andy Richter sang:
