SANDY — A slim majority of the City Council voted against pursuing further annexations in the Granite area in return for Salt Lake County withdrawing its protest of two areas annexed in November.
The council will now abstain from annexing properties in the township until the Granite community as a whole gets to vote on becoming a township in November 2010.
Salt Lake County already has approved the joint agreement.
Councilmen Stephen Smith, Bryant Anderson and Scott Cowdell voted against the ordinance, which was proposed by Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon's staff last month.
