About $8.5 million is available in federal stimulus money to boost energy efficient projects undertaken by city and county governments.

The Utah State Energy Program is making the money available for such projects as energy efficiency retrofits, on-site renewable energy systems for city-owned buildings and energy-efficient traffic and street lighting.

Subawards will be issued on a competitive basis to incorporated city and county governments that have not already received this type of funding from the U.S. Department of Energy.

For the list of eligible local governments see geology.utah.gov/sep/stimulus/eecbg.html.

The state energy program released the finalized Request for Grant Application (RGA) earlier this month, with the application deadline set at Jan. 19. The RGA includes application details, requirements, and forms.

For more information on the grant opportunity, contact Jerriann Ernstsen, 801-537-3384.
