PEORIA, Ariz. — Every
year, the women of the Peoria North Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints organize a community service project in November
to benefit various charitable groups in the
Phoenix/Glendale/Peoria/Surprise area.This year, more than
$5,800 was donated to WasteNot Arizona to purchase turkeys that go to
more than 80 organizations to provide holiday meals for the less
fortunate. The two LDS stakes in the City of Surprise added another
$4,800 (LDS members in Sun City and Sun City West are part of these
stakes). Quilts, fleece blankets, afghans and booties were hand made
and donated to homeless and women's shelters, along with book bags and
craft kits.
