Texas has a big lead over TCU in the latest USA Today coaches' poll, a strong indicator that the Longhorns will earn a spot in the national title game opposite No. 1 Alabama.
The Longhorns' 13-12 victory against Nebraska in the Big 12 title game left the faintest glimmer of hope for unbeaten TCU — or undefeated Cincinnati — of jumping Texas in the BCS standings and landing a spot in the title game.
The coaches' poll accounts for one-third of a team's BCS average. The other components are the Harris poll, due out later Sunday, and six computer ratings.
No. 2 Texas received 1,409 points in the latest coaches' poll and No. 3 TCU had 1,336 points. The Longhorns were expected to remain ahead of TCU in the computer ratings.
