RALEIGH, N.C. — Erik Cole scored three goals and the Carolina Hurricanes snapped a five-game skid by beating the Vancouver Canucks 5-3 on Saturday.

Cole's sixth NHL hat trick was his first multigoal game for Carolina since he was reacquired from Edmonton on March 4.

Ray Whitney had a goal and two assists for Carolina, which ended Vancouver's three-game road-winning streak. Manny Legace stopped 33 shots.

Jannik Hansen, Steve Bernier and Alex Burrows scored for the Canucks, and Andrew Raycroft made 23 saves.

BLUES 5, KINGS 4 (SO): At Los Angeles, Paul Kariya scored twice in the third period and Andy McDonald and Brad Boyes added goals in the first two rounds of the shootout to lift St. Louis over Los Angeles. Boyes and Keith Tkachuk netted second-period goals for the Blues, and Chris Mason recorded six of his 36 saves in overtime before thwarting Anze Kopitar and Jack Johnson in the shootout.

Kariya's second goal of the game and eighth of the season came during a power play with 2:20 remaining, giving him four in five games following a 14-game drought.

Alexander Frolov scored the tying goal for the Kings with 34 seconds left in regulation. Los Angeles also got a short-handed goal from Brad Richardson, who has scored in three consecutive games following a 64-game drought, dating to February 2008. Rookie Scott Parse and Jarret Stoll each had a goal and an assist for the Kings.

OILERS 3, STARS 2 (SO): At Dallas, Shawn Horcoff scored in the fifth round of the shootout to help Edmonton earn a rare road win at Dallas.

Jeff Deslauriers stopped four of five Dallas shooters in the tiebreaker, and the Oilers won for only the fourth time in their last 26 road games against the Stars.

The Oilers rallied from a two-goal deficit in the first period to send the game to overtime.

Ladislav Smid had a goal and an assist, and Lubomir Visnovsky also scored for Edmonton. Deslauriers stopped 33 shots in his eighth straight game while starter Nikolai Khabibulin recovers from a back injury.

James Neal and rookie Jamie Benn scored for Dallas, and Marty Turco made 34 saves.

CAPITALS 8, FLYERS 2: At Philadelphia, with new coach Peter Laviolette making his Flyers debut behind the bench, Tomas Fleischmann and Mike Green scored two goals apiece, and Nicklas Backstrom added a goal and four assists, leading streaking Washington to a rout of Philadelphia.

It was the seventh loss in eight games for the Flyers, who fired coach John Stevens on Friday.

The Southeast Division-leading Capitals didn't miss two-time NHL MVP Alex Ovechkin, who served the final game of a two-game suspension. Washington won its fifth straight.

Philadelphia's poor play continued, as the Capitals took a 1-0 lead just 57 seconds in when Fleischmann knocked in a rebound off Brendan Morrison's slap shot.
