Region 18 changes name to SWAC

In the past, the local junior college basketball conference has gone by the generic name of Region 18. Kind of boring and nondescript. So this year, in an effort to gain a better identity, conference officials have bestowed the league with a new name — the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

Half of the 10 teams in the league reside in Utah — Salt Lake Community College, Utah Valley Community College (Orem), College of Eastern Utah (Price), Snow College (Ephraim) and Dixie College (St. George). The others include three Idaho schools, Ricks College (Rexburg), North Idaho College (Coeur D'Alene) and College of Southern Idaho (Twin Falls), as well as an Oregon school, Treasure Valley CC, and Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely. CSI has won the last four league titles, including a national championship in 1987.
