Gov. Gary Herbert has appointed Bruce Johnson to serve as chairman of the state Tax Commission.
Johnson, a member of the commission since 1998, replaces retiring chairwoman Pam Hendrickson.
"Bruce's broad knowledge of tax law and policy has earned him the respect of professionals in the private and public sectors," Herbert said in a statement. "He is a recognized national expert on state tax policy issues, and I appreciate his willingness to serve."
Before being named to the four-member commission, Johnson was a partner in a law firm, where he handled state and local tax disputes. He was also a trial attorney for the U.S. Justice Department's tax division.
