WEST VALLEY CITY — Police are searching for a man who crashed a stolen car into a duplex Friday.

The crash occurred at 4431 S. Dean Drive (3825 West) shortly after 6:30 a.m., said West Valley Police Sgt. Steve Burke.

Burke said a man driving a stolen Honda sedan failed to negotiate a curve and slammed into one unit in a duplex, causing substantial damage. The duplex was occupied at the time of the crash but no one inside was injured.

The residents moved the car outside after it began to smoke, Burke said. The structure did not catch fire.

Firefighters were able to shore up the damaged home and cover the holes with plastic sheeting. A building inspector cleared the home for occupancy.

Burke said the man driving the stolen vehicle was picked up at the scene by someone in a Ford sedan. Police received conflicting information about the make and color of the second vehicle, the sergeant said, and did not have a description of the man who crashed into the duplex.

Anyone with information should call police at 801-840-4000.
