A man who allegedly broke into the vehicle of a U.S. marshal and stole guns and ammunition is facing federal charges.
Michael George Norman, 40, was indicted Wednesday on charges of possessing stolen firearms and ammunition, and possessing firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon. The theft was reported Tuesday after a deputy U.S. marshal found two windows on his vehicle broken and two of his personal firearms — a handgun and a rifle — stolen, the indictment states. The guns were in a black rifle bag, which also contained two types of ammunition.
Shortly after the theft was reported, an informant told police that Norman might have stolen the bag, the indictment states. The informant said Norman had been at his house with two guns matching the description of the stolen weapons.
Investigators located Norman's vehicle parked at motel and arrested him. When questioned about the weapons, Norman said he threw one from his vehicle and the other was at a friend's home, according to the indictment. Police found the handgun in a bag on the side of the road.
