Semitrailer crash closes Logan Canyon for two hours

LOGAN — The effort to clean up a crash involving a semitrailer that overturned in Logan Canyon closed U.S. 89 for several hours Wednesday.

A 2006 Kenworth truck hauling a 53-foot refrigerated trailer full of cheese, butter and yogurt was driving north about noon when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

The trailer began to tip, and then the tractor and trailer both went into the Logan River about a mile north of Logan Cave.

The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, troopers said.

There were no lane closures immediately following the crash; however, crews closed the canyon about 8 p.m. to remove the tractor and trailer from the river.
