PHOENIX — After a meeting full of heated discussion, the Phoenix City Council voted unanimously to accept the planning commission's recommendation and approved plans to build a Mormon temple in the northwest part of the city.
Nearby homeowners voiced opposition to the proposal to build a 40-foot tall temple near 51st Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road with a 78-foot steeple and a lighted spire at night.
