A Sentry Peak permit is required to hike this trail. Permits are issued at the ranch office at Fielding Garr Ranch. The ranch is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Hiking the trail without a permit could result in a fine. The trail starts from the ranch and heads south on a dirt road. At one-half mile is the Sentry Peak junction, and the trail turns west. Looking west is Sentry Peak. It looks like a pyramid. About a half-mile from the junction, the trail turns south. At this junction, hikers can visit Mushroom Springs, just off the trail road. It's not posted. There is another junction to see more springs at 1.42 miles, continuing south. Visit the springs or stay left for Sentry Peak. The trail climbs up and loops back north to terrific views looking east over the Great Salt Lake. Mushroom Springs and Fielding Garr Ranch can be seen from this vantage point. The trail comes to the last junction. This is the loop junction around Sentry Peak, and hikers can go left or right. At the ridgeline going right, hikers will find a picnic table and western views of the island. What a great place to have lunch before looping around the peak. There is very little shade on this trail, so take plenty of water. Enjoy the beautiful south end of Antelope Island.

Directions: From I-15, take Exit 332. Go west on Antelope Drive to the causeway. After the causeway, turn left and watch for the sign to Fielding Garr Ranch. Sign says "Ranch." The trail closes at 5 p.m., and a backcountry permit is required.
