KAYSVILLE — Police have identified the Layton teenager who died Tuesday in a four-vehicle car accident at the intersection of U.S. 89 and 200 North on Tuesday as Rachel Vigil.

Officials say the 17-year-old Vigil was traveling north on U.S. 89 when she swerved hard to the left and struck an SUV, causing the teenager's car to spin into oncoming traffic, Utah Highway Patrol troopers said. The car then collided with two southbound trucks on the passenger and driver's side of the vehicle. Helicopter medics attempted to resuscitate the girl on scene, but she was pronounced dead, said UHP Sgt. Kim Farnsworth.

The 65-year-old woman driving the SUV was transported in serious condition to McKay-Dee Hospital after her SUV flipped over and landed on its tires. She was later released, UHP reports.

A 41-year-old man who was driving a truck that hit the driver's side of the teenager's car was taken to Lakeview Hospital with minor injuries. The other driver was not injured.

The teenage girl was wearing a seat belt, UHP said.

U.S. 89 was blocked at the intersection for more than three hours, forcing motorists to find alternate routes around the crash site.

The accident is still under investigation, but Farnsworth said they don't believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.
