OGDEN — An Ogden man was arrested Sunday after a drunken brawl he was in the middle of escalated into an assault with a screwdriver, police said.

Officers were called to the 2400 block of Kiesel Avenue about 1:45 a.m. Sunday after a 29-year-old man, who was intoxicated, hit another drunken man while trying to start a fight, said Ogden Police Lt. Scott Sangberg. When police arrived, he also became violent with them, and somewhere in the middle of all of it, he produced a screwdriver.

"Basically what you had was a bunch of drunken fights … and (one man) decided to use a screwdriver in the assault," Sangberg said.

He stabbed one man with the screwdriver near his ear, causing a puncture wound two inches long and an inch thick, police said. The man who was stabbed was transported to a hospital, where he was treated and later released. The second man was booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault.
