State air-pollution monitors are advising residents of Salt Lake and Davis counties that conditions have turned "red," meaning people with respiratory problems or heart disease, the elderly and young children should refrain from prolonged outdoor exertion.

Accompanying the "red" designation is the prohibition of wood burning and the request to curtail driving as much as possible because vehicles add to unhealthy pollution levels.

Utah County's air quality remains good.
