Art canvas: Special exhibits and programs throughout Utah
The annual Holiday Craft Exhibit & Sale in the Park Gallery at the Art Barn opens for the season Dec. 4, 6-9 p.m. for the Holiday Gallery Stroll. The Salt Lake Art Center's Holiday Open House and kickoff for the Not Just Another Pretty Face Art Benefit is Dec. 4, 6-9 p.m., at the Salt Lake Art Center, 20 S. West Temple. Artists participating include Jean Arnold, Doug Braithwaite, Sandy Brunvand, Trent Call, Zachary Proctor and others.
Draw faces with artist Annette Orrock at the Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave., Ogden, Dec. 5, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. This is a portrait-drawing workshop where the subject is a face of the student's choice. Students should bring reference photos, pencil and kneaded eraser. Tuition is $30. The class is recommended for ages 8 to adult. Preregister at 801-392-6935.
Toquerville Clay Pottery Studio, 143 N. Toquer Blvd., Toquerville, is holding its seventh annual holiday sale, Dec. 5 and 6, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Artists include Dan Anderson, Danny Crump, Jason Hess, Steve Schaeffer and Russ Wrankle (435-619-4419).
Art in Transit announces the availability of public art commissions on the North Temple TRAX line. There will be five commissions awarded at $90,000 each. Two of the commissions are limited to Utah artists only. A conceptual proposal is required; the deadline is Jan. 11. Call 801-596-5000 or visit www.slcgov.com.arts and click on "Public Arts." Art in Transit is managed by the Salt Lake City Arts Council in partnership with the Utah Transit Authority.
